About this tour

10 Days. 10 Hidden Places. 10 Journeys.

Designing a journey through the lesser-known regions of the Kyrgyz Tien Shan within just eleven days was no simple task. Our experts drew on years of field research and exploration experience to shape this route.

The itinerary spans the entire country, with arrival and departure in either Bishkek or Osh. Travel is conducted in a private 4×4 vehicle with an expert driver-guide. Tour with a driver-guide. Trip length: 3,100 km.

Welcome to the Kyrgyz kaleidoscope — a journey through the “Unknown Kyrgyzstan” rarely described in guidebooks. We present the country as it is known to explorers and dedicated travelers who have spent years discovering its landscapes and cultures.

Hidden Natural Landscapes

From the high ranges of the Tien Shan to the colors of the Pamirs, you travel through remote regions of Kyrgyzstan far from mass tourism. Each location along the route is uncommon, little visited, and deeply atmospheric.

You encounter diverse mountain terrain, expansive panoramas, and natural areas that remain largely untouched. Travel by off-road vehicle allows access to terrain that is otherwise difficult to reach.

History and Culture Through an Expert Lens

Your driver-guides are archaeologists, ethnographers, and photographers who have explored Kyrgyzstan extensively. They share local histories, legends, and environmental knowledge rarely encountered in conventional tours.

You experience the country’s geoculture, traditions, and archaeological heritage through the perspective of people who have spent their lives studying and documenting it.

Comfort and Adventure in One Journey

The route combines authenticity with comfort: hotels, yurt camps, guesthouses, and select nights in tents. Experienced drivers and guides ensure both safety and access to remote terrain throughout the journey.

The Whole Country in 10 Days

North, south, east, and west — the journey reveals the geographic and cultural breadth of Kyrgyzstan. Each day brings new landscapes, encounters, and impressions that remain long after the journey ends.

Ready to Discover Kyrgyzstan:

This is not simply a tour. It is an opportunity to encounter a lesser-known Kyrgyzstan — one that lies beyond standard travel routes and maps.

Discover the country through ten remarkable places, ten days, and a sequence of journeys that stay with you for a lifetime.

Program

325 km | about 5 hours driving

You are met at Bishkek International Airport and transferred to a comfortable guesthouse for a short rest after your flight. There is time to shower, change, organize luggage, exchange currency, and arrange local SIM cards. After lunch, the journey begins toward Issyk-Kul Lake.

The road follows the scenic southern shore, with stops at Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon, known for its wind-shaped sandstone formations, and at panoramic viewpoints overlooking Issyk-Kul — one of the world’s largest alpine lakes.

By evening, arrival and accommodation in a comfortable lakeside yurt camp or hotel.

At sunrise, Issyk-Kul lies calm beneath the surrounding mountains. After breakfast in Tamga, we ascend toward the Arabel Plateau, a vast high-altitude tundra of the Central Tien Shan. The route crosses an immense alpine peneplain where glaciers descend close to the road.

Along the way lie the remote summer pastures of Taragai, quiet mountain corners of the Burkhan Valley, and the headwaters of the Small Naryn River. By afternoon we reach the town of Naryn. Hotel accommodation and dinner at a local restaurant.

Few travelers have reached the Kok-Kiya Canyons. Today we drive toward the southern edge of the Tien Shan into the vast Ak-Sai Valley, one of the great intermountain basins of the region. From the open valley floor, the land suddenly breaks into a network of deep canyons carved by the emerald-green Kok-Kiya River.

We approach the rim of one canyon, where sheer rock walls drop into narrow green corridors below. If conditions allow, we descend toward the canyon floor and attempt to find a route for our off-road vehicle to reach a neighboring branch of the canyon system.

Camping overnight in complete mountain silence beneath a clear, star-filled sky.

In the morning we begin the return toward Naryn through open mountain scenery. En route we visit Char Canyon, a dramatic gorge cutting through the Alamishik massif. A short ascent leads to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the wide Naryn Valley.

Arrival in Naryn and accommodation in a guesthouse.

Morning departure toward Jalal-Abad, historically known as Manas, located at the meeting point of major mountain routes. The road follows the Naryn River through changing Tien Shan landscapes, with stops in secluded gorges, at waterfalls, and among striking geological formations.

From Kara-Koo Pass, wide badlands unfold across the valley below. Crossing the Fergana Range, we descend into the eastern Fergana Valley. Hotel accommodation in Jalal-Abad.

After breakfast we drive toward Gulcha. The road passes through canyon landscapes before joining the Pamir Highway — a modern continuation of the historic Silk Road. As we approach the high-mountain village of Sary-Tash, the Pamir ranges rise ahead in full view.

Overnight in a guesthouse in Sary-Mogol.

Today we travel into the Koksu Valley, a striking mountain area of sharp peaks and steep rock walls that remains largely outside regular travel routes. After time in the valley, we return to Sary-Mogol.

In clear weather, the skyline opens toward the Pamirs with a view of Lenin Peak (7,134 m). Guesthouse overnight.

We continue toward Osh, entering a juniper-covered mountain gorge along the way and visiting the hidden alpine lake Chonkel in the Uch-Dobo area.

Arrival in Osh, one of Central Asia’s oldest cities. Hotel accommodation. In the evening, a traditional plov cooking masterclass followed by dinner.

Early departure into the Sokh Valley, a fertile region known for apricot orchards and rice cultivation. The road gradually enters the powerful Sokh Canyon, carved deep into the rock mass of the Turkestan Range.

Here lies the remote mountain settlement of Zardaly, where the way of life has remained largely unchanged since the 19th century. Small villages and terraced orchards cling to narrow ledges along the cliffs, forming a cultural landscape shaped long before modern roads reached the region.

Camping overnight beneath the open mountain sky.

Return to Osh, a historic city with a strong Central Asian character. After time at the hotel, we visit the sacred Suleiman-Too Mountain, the spiritual symbol of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in a hotel.

Transfer to Osh Airport, check-in, and departure.
